Welcome to this Inaugural Issue of “The Cyber Sentinel”
Our Inaugural Release!
“The Cyber Sentinel” is dedicated to “the good, the bad and the ugly of cybersecurity.”
WEEK 2: UPDATE:
With over 20 years in secure system and software development within the federal government, I have decided to blog those frustrations and those glimmers of “goodness” to the cybersecurity community at-large. With some help from my fellow “sentinels,” I want to talk about the good and great grassroot best practices that are out there and collect them here to share, ponder, and re-invent–this will hopefully be a useful resource to those of you just starting out in this area called: cybersecurity.
On the other hand, we need to talk about how the federal government continues to get it wrong and why? How to fix it? How to get senior leadership to recognize they must be part of the solution or we are likely to fail with just another major hacking event recurring time and time again.
So, with that said, welcome once again. Be prepared to hear the great and sad stories as well as the heroes out there that are every day trying to impart a proper balance between operations and security.
My “hat” is off to those “in the trenches” fighting to secure our precious systems and data and are forcing the arm-chair cybersecurity community to recognize those glasses they are wearing are a bit of a deep shade of rose color.
With Regards,
Mark
